I first discovered Scala Rider while searching through an online auction site. I was in the market for a Bluetooth ear piece for was as I am a Van Driver by trade. It wasn't until I clicked on the auction that I discovered what a terrific item the Scala Rider FM is. As I sometime commute to and from work on my motorbike, this unit meant I could still keep in contact with my friend if the need arises. The voice dialling option is great and works with both my Motorola V3X and now my Sony Ericsson K800i. The sound is crystal clear, and the mic works well even at high speeds. I've found that during calls, its not necessary to even raise my voice, as the recipient can find it too loud.
The best feature about it is that it has dual ear pieces, these work extremely well and provide more than enough sound. They are thin and not noticeable when fitted. The Velcro lining on the back of the speakers provide a good fixing point to the inner lining of my helmet.
The FM Radio is also a very cool feature of this unit, and helps pass the time on journeys. Once set, the volume automatically adjusts according to the surrounding noise/speed. So if your powering through the power band, the music still plays on!
All in all, its a very easy kit to install and use. It wasn't something i looked for but I am very glad I invested in one and would recommend others to do so as well. A very cool gadget indeed.
FM specific notes:
With regards to the FM setup, its easy enough to find and store 6 channels. Was not so good at picking up new channels whilst on the move in my area but I have heard from others it works very well. So I guess that depends on the radio stations relative to your location. I would not recommend trying to search for channels etc whilst riding anyway ! It also worked and picked up channels better when the unit was powered up from the mains. Once tuned in power can be removed. On the whole an excellent unit for those who want radio as well as the capabilities of the solo Scala Rider.
Hi True Blue,
I wish you luck with your new venture!
I bought a Scala Rider and a Scala FM from you. Your service was fast, courteous and friendly. I recommended it to a friend. The Scala Rider/FM integrates with my HP Ipaq 6915 phone and a Garmin Zumo 550 GPS. The pairing takes a little patience and the units must be fully charged and attached to the mains charger while the FM stations are memorised and the Bluetooth connectivity is being set up. I have had both units for 9 months and use them frequently in all weather. They fit both an open face and full face helmet easily. They are reliable, easy to use and last a day without charging. The FM radio works very well and all speeds. Overall, they exceed expectations.
